Our History

A personal moment that became a mission

When our founder was a teenager living in Nigeria, during the time between her completion of high school and the start of her college career, her grandmother slipped and fell and fractured her right wrist. At a local hospital, the family was profiled and deemed to have resources, and so the more expensive treatment, surgery, was recommended. What followed was heartbreak: her grandmother never received physical therapy, she never received vitamin D or calcium supplementation, and sadly never regained proper use of her dominant hand.

That experience changed everything. Seeing how a decision driven by the wrong incentives (and by a lack of appropriate, evidence-based options) could permanently harm someone she loved inspired our founder to become an orthopaedic surgeon — and later to build Sunnyvale Concierge Medical Group. The goal was simple and urgent: make sure patients receive the care they actually need, whether or not it is profitable to provide.

If our founder’s grandmother had been treated under United States evidence-based guidelines, surgery would not likely have been recommended. That wrist fracture was a fragility fracture — common after menopause because bones become thinner. The standard course would have been conservative: casting, timely physical therapy, calcium and vitamin D supplementation, and assessment of bone density. Those cheaper, effective measures were never offered. We exist so this does not happen to others.

What we learned

Lessons that shaped our practice

  • Quality care must follow evidence — not payment incentives.

  • Conservative, proven treatments can be safest and most effective.

  • Care coordination and follow-through (including rehabilitation) save function and dignity.

  • Patients deserve access to the same high-quality medication and clinical standards across borders.

How that became Sunnyvale Concierge Medical Group

From a single story to a system that prevents it
We built a model that blends U.S. clinical standards with local access. Our U.S.-licensed clinicians review each patient’s history and current plan against evidence-based guidelines, coordinate referrals in Nigeria and the U.S., and follow through until the patient receives the appropriate care. We made medication access and care coordination core offerings so patients can get the right medicines, timely appointments, and the rehabilitation they need — no matter where they are.
